Nowadays, great importance is paid to the refurbishment of old electrical machines. Hydro-generators have a physical life time of about half a century. When old components are combined with new parts, modern design guidelines collide with old ones. The electrical design process for the refurbishment of large hydro-generators therefore requires special detailed investigations. The utilization of high efficient numerical field calculation methods allows for accurate predictions of the electrical behaviour of refurbished synchronous machines.
