Kurzfassung englisch:
The eddy currents in the clamping plates of large hydro-generators
generate additional losses and can cause local heating problems. This
paper presents an analytic method for calculating these losses. The
Biot-Savart method with 3D solid conductors is utilized for the numeric calculation of the magnetic field on the clamping plates. Subsequently, the eddy currents in the clamping plates are determinated from a local 3D analytic calculation model. Due to the nonlinear magnetic material, an iterative process has to be introduced for these calculations. The presented results for various material properties of the clamping plates are compared with measurements on a 500 MVA hydro-generator.
