Kurzfassung englisch:
A short overview is given about the development of tribology in Austria focusing on the activities during the last years and the current situation in education and research in terms of
tribology. The founding of an Austrian Center of Competence for Tribology in 2002 and a new govemmental initiative for funding of research and technology (COMET) brought up a renaissance of tribology with encouraging future prospects.
