Kurzfassung englisch:
Automotive Engineering and thus traffic on roads is to a high extent inseparably connected to the core
tasks of tribology which is the science and engineering of interacting surfaces in relative motion. There are a lot
of tasks in basic functions of economy, engineering (especially transport planning and management) where
tribology - from a holistic approach - may contribute to solutions. It is necessary to focus not only on technical
or especially material aspects but also to include considerations from the point of view of economy,
standardisation, politics, etc. The paper addresses a variety of trends and tasks related - in a broader sense - to
friction and wear in that field of application, like accidents due to missing grip of tyres, valuation/
characterisation of road pavement quality in terms of sufficient grip, trends in energy saving of vehicles based
on reducing friction, wear of road pavement and tribologically oriented models for road pricing.
