"Ab-initio calculations of magneto-optical properties for Semi-infinite inhomogeneous layered systems";
Technische Universität Wien, Institut für Allgemeine Physik, 2006.

Kurzfassung englisch:
Although it is well understood, that magneto-optics originates from
spin-orbit coupling and exchange splitting, a purely microscopic
(quantum mechanical) theory of the Kerr effect does not exist. The
scope of the present contribution is to provide and apply a scheme,
which allows one to determine both frequency- and time-resolved
magneto-optical properties of surfaced layered systems on a
first-principles basis by means of the spin-polarized relativistic
screened Korringa-Kohn-Rostoker (SKKR) method within the density
functional theory (DFT), and by using a proper macroscopic model
describing the dynamics of electromagnetic waves propagation.
