English abstract:
An embedded system is a computer system designed to perform a dedicated or narrow range of functions with a minimal user intervention. An intelligent system is a system that is able to react appropriately to changing situations without user input and hence, an attractive solution for an embedded system. Main challenges for intelligent solutions in embedded systems come from dependability and real-time requirements and from constraints on cost, size, and power consumption.
The international Workshop on Intelligent Solutions in Embedded Systems (WISES'03) has brought together students, young researchers, and experienced scientists of this interdisciplinary area to exchange ideas and experiences. Regarding the novelty of the approach, the significance of the work, and the technical approach 18 papers have been selected, which have been presented in four sessions on Intelligent Methods, Automation, Robotics, and Intelligent Hardware.
