English abstract:
Nonlinear Finite Element simulations are presented for modeling the mechanical response of an L-shaped multi-layered cross-ply flange subjected to transverse bending. The focus is set on progressive damage and failure simulations both within the plies and at the
inter-ply interfaces, with a special emphasis on their interaction. The sequence of the occurring damage and failure modes is predicted as well as the interaction between them. The structural load-deflection curve is presented which shows a pronounced snap-back behavior.
A shell modeling approach is utilized by which each ply is represented by its own layer of (shell) elements. The individual layers are connected by surface interaction capabilities. The predictions are compared to experiments and simulations from the literature.
