Kurzfassung englisch:
Nanotechnology is an area of science and engineering that is widely heralded to lead to a new technological revolution.
It cuts across the boundaries that exist between traditional scientific disciplines and utilises a completely new multidisciplinary
approach. To take full advantage of the potential offered by nanotechnology, it is essential for Europe to
have a sufficient number of researchers who have the necessary skills, an inter-disciplinary approach and are able to
strengthen co-operation between academia and industry, to promote innovation and be mindful of wider societal issues.
This paper outlines the challenges facing Europe in research, educating and training a new generation of researchers
and several steps that are being taken to meet the challenges.
