Kurzfassung englisch:
The huge volume of personal information originates from diverse sources with different format and contents. The use of traditional methods and tools alone for organizing and searching this information corpus does not meet today´s requirements and results in further segregation and loss of semantics. The successful use of semantic web technologies for managing personal information on the desktop is now recognized. This paper reports on the application and usefulness of these technologies in the context of SemanticLife digital memory project. The system is based on the concept of pluggable ontologies where different domain and application ontologies can be used according to the personal information space of a user. SemanticLife Ontology provides a basic framework and design guidelines for other ontologies and plugins. This ontology attempts to model the context of a user and the semantics of personal information in the form of five Ws (What, Who, When, Where, Why). We believe that these five dimensions of information can cover most of the context of a user without loss of significant semantics. We describe the different plugins that are involved in populating the ontology according to these dimensions.
