English abstract:
In many applications Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM) are driven by diode bridge fed voltage source inverters. In the presented paper a method is shown to operate these PMSMs in generating mode without using an external braking resistor. With the help of an intelligent control structure the braking energy is converted into heat in the stator resistance without considerably affecting the torque production. Due to combination of this method with a sensorless position estimation an extraordinarily low cost solution for motoring and generating mode at maximum power density is realised.
