English abstract:
Future DVD-systems will use light a shorter wavelength in order to reduce the size of the pit structure on the optical disc and therefore to increase the storage capacity of the optical storage medium. The resulting higher data rates necessitate broadband optical pickup units to convert the light, reflected by the optical disc, into an electrical output signal. OEICs (OptoElectronic Integrated Circuits) use monolithically integrated photodetectors in order to avoid the bondpad capacitance between photodiode and amplifier and to increase the bandwidth compared to discrete or two-chip solutions. We introduce a 0.6μm BiCMOS chip with integrated PIN photodiode. The suggested new amplifier architecture is optimized for high bandwidth, low offset voltage, and high transimpedance gain. Measurement results of the OEIC showed a bandwidth of 380MHz and a transimpedance of 260kΩ.
