"Tribological Applicability of Microemulsions - A Critical View";
Vortrag: 1st Vienna International Conference on Micro- and Nano-Technology - Viennano'05, Vienna, Austria; 09.03.2005 - 11.03.2005; in: "1st Vienna International Conference on Micro- and Nano-Technology - Proceedings", Österreichische Tribologische Gesellschaft, Wien (2005), ISBN: 3-901657-17-7; S. 25 - 32.

Kurzfassung englisch:
Emulsions are known as cloudy mixtures composed of oil, water and surfactants. In contrast, microemulsions appear
transparent as the droplet size of the discontinuous phase is reduced to the submicron range by the addition of special
surface-active agents. Microemulsions are the object of scientific works for many decades, but little is known about
their applicability in tribological processes. Present applications comprise pharmaceuticals, biocides, tertiary oil
production, etc. In this contribution, the requirements of microemulsions as lubricating part of tribosystems are
discussed. Furthermore, analytical devices, in particular for the detection of the states and transitions, ranging from
sophisticated laboratory equipment to miniaturized sensors are presented.
