"Numerical Analysis for the Large-Body Limit in Micromagnetics";
Talk: Micromagnetics: Experiments, Modeling, and Mathematical Theory, Bonn (invited); 09-04-2006 - 09-06-2006.

English abstract:
We consider the large-body limit of the Landau-Lifshitz minimization problem introduced by DeSimone in 1993.

We treat the lowest-order Galerkin discretization of the corresponding (and equivalent) Euler-Lagrange equations by use of piecewise contant vector fields. The magnetic potential of a discrete magnetization is computed analytically by use of a linear integral operator, and the side constraint is replaced by a penalization strategy.

Numerical aspects addressed in the presentation include the efficient computation of the discrete solution by use of H-matrix techniques as well as a priori and a posteriori error control with a reliability-efficiency gap and adaptive mesh-design.
