We discuss the approximation of the meanŻeld terms appearing
in computations of the time-dependent Hartree{Fock method for the solution
of the time-dependent multi-particle (electronic) SchrÄodinger equation by hi-
erarchical matrices. This report gives theoretical error bounds for the cross
approximation deŻned by low rank approximations of admissible matrix sub-
blocks.
