A comparison of the crystal electric field (CF)-level schema of NdCu2 and its measured phonon dispersion relation suggests that some of the phonon branches should show a measurable coupling with the CF. The presented inelastic neutron scattering data obtained from triple axis spectrometer measurements confirm this interaction. In addition, a theoretical model describing the experimental data is presented.
