Abstract

The change in the resistivity in a Co nanowire due to the anisotropic magnetoresistivity effect is investigated using the finite element method. The wire has a square cross-section of 200×200 nm2. We compare our results with experimental investigations. The numerical results show reduction of the resistivity during hysteresis. Magnetoresistance (MR) decreases gradually until the coercive field is reached and then jumps back to the initial value. If we move the electrodes into the centre of the nanowire the MR effect is reduced because we neglect the formed domains at the end of the nanowire.
