"The Discreet Charm of the Platinum(110) Surface: Insights from DFT Calculations";
Vortrag: Seminar Institut für Allgemeine Physik (IAP), TU Wien; 06.12.2005.

Kurzfassung englisch:
For the late 5d-series fcc metals (Ir, Pt, Au) a simple cleaved (110) surface is unstable towards an anisotropic lateral reconstruction, where rows of surface atoms are expelled in a regular pattern.
To be useful as a template for studying low-dimensional phenomena a preferential adsorption either on either the top Pt-rows or in the troughs in between is desirable, which in the end may lead to an enhanced
(or even truly) one-dimensional character of the adsorbate system's electronic structure.

The following scenarios will be discussed:
(1) Hydrogen on top Pt-rows
(2) Deconstructing the surface by Halogens
(3) Filling the troughs with Cobalt
