Abstract

New ferromagnetic shape-memory alloys have been developed by means of the melt-spinning technique. The alloys are multi-functional materials, which have both ferromagnetic property and shape-memory effect. We have focused on Fe-Mn-Si based alloys, which are nonmagnetic materials, due to high manganese content. To improve ferromagnetic function, we have investigated rare-earth elements as additions. This paper presents the measured magnetic properties and the shape-memory characteristics of the developed new ferromagnetic shape-memory alloys.
