Kurzfassung englisch:
The preparation of novel hydrophilic microspheres based on carbohydrate methacrylates by seeded polymerization is described. Initially polymerization conditions such as the appropriate activator and emulsifier were investigated using two model systems i.e. glycidylmethacrylate and styrene, respectively. Using these optimized parameters monodisperse 3 µm sized microspheres based on diisopropyliden glucose methacrylate were successfully produced. Yields were improved after studying different temperatures used for the swelling process. The morphology tailored by variation of the porogen was analyzed by nitrogen adsorption, mercury intrusion and scanning electron microscopy. Additionally fluorescent microspheres were prepared by either using Nile blue-A methacrylate as co-monomer or coupling Nile blue-A via the amino group on activated microspheres.
