"The reaction between soot and NO2 - investigation on functional groups using TPD-MS ";

English abstract:
Three different soot samples, two from a Diesel engine and one commercially available were subjected to a detailed laboratory investigation using Temperature Programmed Desorption Mass Spectroscopy (TPD-MS) as major technique. Additional information was obtained by nitrogen adsorption (BET) and Diffuse Reflectance Infrared Fourier Transformation Spectroscopy (DRIFTS). Surface changes due to a high temperature reaction with NO2 as oxidizing agent are of particular interest. Depending on the reaction temperature different functional groups are formed on the surface. An attempt has been made to find an adequate reaction temperature for the conversion with NO2.
