Raman spectroscopic methods in which a laser beam is directed, within a certain measurement region, onto a sample contg. a solid or liq. target material (e.g., org. material) that is dispersed or suspended in a carrier liq. and radiation that is emitted by the sample and is specific for the same is detected are described in which an ultrasonic standing wave field is generated in the measurement region which retains (possibly agglomerating) the target material at pressure or velocity nodes of the ultrasonic standing wave and the laser beam is directed onto the retained target material and/or onto adjacent points. App. for carrying out the methods including ultrasound generators are also described. Applications to monitoring biotechnol. processes are discussed.
