English abstract:
This final report on the START-project Y41 provides an overview of the accomplishments and personal developments achieved during 1997--2003. We are happy to say that all promises made in our 1996 application have been fulfilled, partially to an extent that could not have been forseen by any means. Y41 thus confirms the high potential of a long-term, project-independent funding programme like START'96 for stimulating scientific excellence.
