"Synchronous and Asynchronous Design Methods -- A Hardware Designer's Perspective";
Report for Research Report 86/2004, Technische Universität Wien, Institut für Technische Informatik, Treitlstraße 3, A-1040 Vienna, Austria; 2004.

English abstract:
This paper presents a hardware related comparison of digital design techniques. The comparison is based on a clear identi¯cation of the problem to be solved, and on an analysis of the available conceptual options. Within this framework we then analyze the synchronous design method and the diverse asynchronous techniques and compare their e±ciency and practical applicability. We cover delay insensitive methods at the example of Micropipelines. With respect to delay insensitive cir- cuits we ¯gure out two conditions for the coding scheme and discuss the approach using the examples of NULL convention Logic and Transition signaling.
