English abstract:
In this paper we present the architecture of the software implementation of the Time-Triggered (TT) Ethernet controller, using the the x86 architecture. The presented TT Ethernet controller offers hard-real time communication guarantees using the 100Mbit Ethernet. The controller was developed using the Linux kernel with realtime application interface (RTAI) patch. Although this software implementation of the TT Ethernet controller cannot utilize the full bandwidth of 100Mbit Ethernet, it has the benefits, such as shorter development time, flexibility in the design changes, low cost, and portability. In this paper, we focus on the particular problems of achieving hard real-time guarantees with the x86 architecture in the Linux environment and demonstrate the bottlenecks by considering the implementation of the TTE communication controller as a case study.
