English abstract:
This paper contains an overview of recent reserch work in the field of computational mechanics of plain and reinforced concrete. Different constitutive models for concrete based on plasticity theory and on damage mechanics are critically evaluated from a theoretical, physical and computational point of view. Material aging of young concrete is also accounted for. The relevance of these concepts for the design of engineering structures is demonstrated by means of finite element analysis of a cracked tower shhell. With regards to future research perspectives, a concept for adaptive finite element analyses of concrete structures is presented.
