"Finite Element Shell Instability Analysis (FE-SIA), Computer Program Manual";
Bericht für Department of Structural Engineering, Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA; 1976.

Kurzfassung englisch:
The computer program described in this report is intended for Finite Element Shell Instability Analysis and has, therefore, been assigned the identifying acronym FESIA. The cornerstone of this program is a triangular, doubly-curved thin shell element. Details of computational algorithms with which it is employed in the solution of problems involving geometrically nonlinear and elastically unstable behavior are given in References 1-3.

FESIA is coded in FORTRAN IV and to date has been operated on the Cornell University IBM 370/168 computer an don the Langley Research Center CDC 6600 computer.

Chapter B of this report is devoted primarily to the topic of the manner in which the geometry of the middle surface of a given shell is defined. Once such a definition has been accomplished, computation of the coefficients of the first and second fundamental form of surface geometry and, thereafter, of the Lamé-parameters an dthe radii of curvature - both enterin gthe strain-displacement equations - can be accomplished. The user is required to supply a subroutinge containing all necessary information for FESIA relevant to the specification of the geometric properties of FESIA relevant to the specification of the geometric properties of the shell. A sample of such a user supplied subroutinge is presented in Section B.2. Furthermore, in Chapter B a few basic aspects of finite element discretization of shells are discussed. The avenue along which the above mentioned triangular, doubly-curved element has been developed is briefly sketched. Chapter C is devoted to a detailed description of the program input. Chapter D deals with the output data which may be obtained. Examples are presented in Chapter E. The structure of FESIA is discussed in Chapter F. Chapter G contains a short summary of input procedure. This chapter is itended for users of FESIA who are already familiar with the program.
