A nonlinear finite element analysis of an orthotropic, elliptical torus model of stomatal mechanics is presented. Guard cell deformation is related to the internal hydrostatic pressure, shell thickness and micellae. A maximum pore opening and a changed cross-sectional view result from consideration of the geometrical nonlinearities.
