This paper is concerned with finite-element stability analysis of shallow, thin hypar-shells made of timber, with straight, corner-supported edge beams. A feature of the analysis model is the direct consideration of the structural anisotropy of the shell membrane consisting of two layers of wooden boards, orthogonally attached to each other by nails. As far as the investigated hypar-shells are concerned, reaching of the ultimate load (in this paper the term "ultimate load" is used in a restrictive sense) is found to be the relevant mode of loss of stability. This agrees with experimental results reported in the literature.
