The authors report about a simple method for the evaluation of photometric amniotic fluid curves in suspected hemolytic disease of the newborn. Hereby it is unnecessary to carry out extensive measurements for the construction of the curve in the required wave-range from 320 to 600, respectively 700 mμ. On account of 4 measured points and a coefficient table, the approximate computation of the bile pigment-content (bilirubin values) from the amniotic fluid can be achieved by means of a simple formula. The origin of the formula is explained, the results from the investigation of 54 amniotic fluid samples in 34 female patients with suspected hemolytic disease of the newborn are presented and compared with the hitherto customary method acccording to Liley.
