English abstract:
The influence of mass absorbers on the structural response of elastic and elastic-plastic shear frames is investigated. Small-scale two-storey model frames, with an elastic SDOF oscillator attached to the second floor, are considered for random in-plane support excitation. Both elastic and elastic-plastic response are measured varying the material properties of the second floor. A parametric study is performed by varying the absorber’s fundamental frequency and damping. Experimental results are compared with those obtained by computational simulations. The latter are derived by an inelastic iterative synthesis technique. Experimental and numerical results are in good agreement and they show high efficiency of the absorber in the elastic case. However, for the elastic-plastic structure the absorber decreases the vibrations of the main frame very slightly, or even can amplify the structural response.
