English abstract:
Recent problems in footbridge constructions were unexpected lateral vibrations due to walking pedestrians. To control and suppress these undesired vibrations secondary tuned damping devices, like the conventional tuned mass damper (TMD), were installed to the bridge structure. In the present investigation it is proposed to apply a more efficient and more economic type of damping device, the tuned liquid column damper (TLCD). A mathematical model of a coupled bridge/TLCD system is derived and analyzed numerically. The bridge is assumed to be a three degree-of-freedom (DOF) system. Furthermore, a small scale testing facility has been constructed in the laboratory of the TU-Institute. The experimental results are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions and it can be concluded that TLCDs are effective damping devices for the control of pedestrian induced vibrations of footbridges.
