English abstract:
In this paper application of passive damping mechanisms in vibration control of elastic and inelastic structures is reviewed. In particular, nonlinear passive control of elastic buildings, linear passive control of inelastic buildings, and a combination of nonlinear passive control devices and inelastic buildings are examined in detail. Studies from the authors as well as results reported in the literature are utilized in order to evaluate the benefit of several passive damping elements in different structures subjected to various excitation scenarios.
