This brief report on the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico from 16th to 23rd March 2006 deals with its targets and implementation, describes by way of example the process of preparation in the European Region, provides a short glimpse of the Forum meetings (including water supply and residential sanitation as subjects of development cooperation, as well as the Right to Water), reports on the Alternative Water Forum held at the same time, informs about the Conference of Ministers, the Declaration of Ministers and the Latin America component of the EU Water Initiative, and finally suggests a possible engagement of the Austrian water industry in the 5th World Water Forum (Istanbul, 16th to 23rd March 2009).

Die folgende Übersicht zum 4.Weltwasserforums (WWF4) in Mexiko vom 16. bis 23. März 2006 geht auf seine Ziele und seine Abwicklung ein, beschreibt beispielhaft den Vorbereitungsprozess in der Region Europa, gibt Einblick in Sitzungen am Forum (einschließlich der Wasserversorgung und Siedlungshygiene im Bereich der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit, sowie des "Rechts auf Wasser"), berichtet über das zur selben Zeit abgewickelte "alternative Wasserforum", gibt Auskunft über die Ministerkonferenz, die Ministererklärung und die Lateinamerikakomponente der EU-Wasserinitiative, und verweist die österreichische Wasserwirtschaft auf die Möglichkeit eines Einklinkens in das 5.Weltwasserforum (Istanbul, 16.-23. März 2009).
