Computational lighting modeling has traditionally concentrated on the building design phase. We argue that lighting simulation can also effectively apply to the building operation phase. To demonstrate this potential, we explore a simulation-assisted lighting control strategy. We specifically demonstrate how a daylight simulation tool is applied to predict task illuminance and luminance levels in lieu of an extended sensing system, thus providing the necessary input information for algorithms towards real-time control of buildings“lighting systems.
