This paper describes a modular architecture for the control of manufacturing cells. Operator interface, control and management functions and machine tool interface are strictly seperated to allow easy adoption for specific requirements. The functionality of the cell control application is exposed through service interfaces and can be invoked by the information systems of the manufacturing execution system directly via SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol).
