"Gas cylinders with longitudinal cracks - cyclic fatigue life time after a pressure test";
Vortrag: 10th International Conference on Pressure Vessel Technology, Vienna University of Technology; 07.07.2003 - 10.07.2003; in: "Pressure Vessel Technology 2003", Österreichische Gesellschaft für Schweißtechnik, Wien (2003), ISBN: 3-9501528-1-4; S. 475 - 480.

Kurzfassung englisch:
For the study to be presented in this paper, at the outside of gas cylinders a notch was applied in longitudinal direction. The gas cylinders were then cycled until crack initiation. This cyclic loading was stopped when the crack reached a size corresponding to a burst pressure value between the maximum allowable pressure and the test pressure. A burst test was then performed with the gas cylinders.
The burst pressure dependence on the crack size was determined using the measured fatigue crack sizes and the reached burst pressures.
The number of pressure cycles required to increase the crack size from the value for bursting at the pressure test to the value for bursting at the allowable pressure was evaluated using the results of on-line crack depth measurements performed in the experiments, FE-analysis and fracture mechanical analysis.
