The proof test is an integral part of the final assessment (after manufacture), and it is an essential part of in-service-inspections (in service) of pressure equipment - vessels, piping, safety accessories and pressure accessories, with a maximum allowable pressure greater than 0,5 bar. For design, manufacture and conformity assessment of stationary pressure equipment the very same legal requirements apply in all European Union Member States, requirements which are laid down in the so-called Pressure Equipment Directive (PED), in Austria transposed into national law by the so-called Druckgeräteverordnung (DVGO).
