English abstract:
An Austrian institute developed a new operational principle for laser diodes leading to diode lasers with superior beam quality. Focus intensities nearly a magnitude higher than that of conventional diode lasers are possible. New limits for coupling into glass fibres and material treatment can replace solid state lasers by efficient and compact diode lasers in some applications.
