Kurzfassung englisch:
The microstructure of near beta titanium alloy Ti-10V-2Fe-3Al is very sensitivity to changes in temperature and deformation. In the present work, an evolution of the alpha phase before and during the hot deformation is studied by means of quantitative analysis of SEM images. The specimens were heated to 20 and 40K below the beta transus temperature and compressed at 0.01, 0.1 and 1s-1 of constant strain rate up to 0.7 of true strain. A transformation of the alpha phase from a bimodal microstructure of chains of alpha grains and fine acicular alpha phase to just rounded and elongated shapes within the beta phase is observed to reach equilibrium after 5 minutes of holding time at both temperatures before deformed. During the compression at low strain rate the chains of alpha grains become globular, while the chains are squeezed and elongated at high strain rates. In addition, the beta subgrains decrease with increasing strain rate.
