English abstract:
The 4th International Conference on Advanced Vibrational Spectroscopy (ICAVS4) took place at the Conference Center of Corfu Holiday Palace Hotel in Corfu, Greece during the week of June 10th to June 15th 2007.

ICAVS is amongst the leading vibrational spectroscopic meetings in the world attracting participants from every corner of the globe. This conference brings together scientists specialized in different spectroscopic methods, giving them an excellent opportunity to broaden their minds beyond their individual specializations. In addition, ICAVS is intended not only for those actively engaged in the field, but also for those wishing to become acquainted with the latest developments.

The ICAVS series is held every two years to review the latest research in the application of all types of vibrational spectroscopy. The scope of the meeting ranges from theoretical and fundamental aspects to recent advances and novel developments in instrumentation, characterization and analysis.

Overall, 242 people from 31 countries participated in ICAVS4 with 101 oral lectures and 183 posters presented. During ICAVS4, an exhibition from companies such as Bruker Optik GmbH, Biotools Inc, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Renishaw, Gasera, Horiba Jobin Yvon, Infrared Associates, Delta Nu, Varian, Wiley, Witec, Torsana and Fibre Photonics also took place. In addition, along with the scientific program we had the opportunity to organize social events that allowed the participants to explore the beauty of Corfu Island.

These two issues of Vibrational Spectroscopy dedicated to ICAVS4 contain 50 accepted contributions from both lectures and posters presented at the Conference and demonstrate very recent advances in the field of vibrational spectroscopy.

Finally, we would like to take the opportunity to thank the Local Committee, the Program Committee, the International Steering Committee, all of the participants, the staff of CPR Congress Organizer and especially Ms. Loukia Simonoviki-Kordopati for doing an excellent job in supporting us in the organization of ICAVS4.
