Kurzfassung englisch:
First applications of the recently upgraded neutron imaging facility at the Atomic Institute in Vienna are presented. Three digitized detectors are now in operation, a scintillation detector (150 micron resolution), a NDM camera (50 micron), and a imaging plate detector (25 micron nominal, 40 micron effective resolution). All detectors have 16 bit dynamic range, which allows the sensitive detection of small quantities of liquids and neutron absorbing isotopes, like 10B, 239Pu and rare earth isotopes, in geology and engineering. We show applications in neutron radiography and tomography where improved spatial resolution and sensitivity is of great valure: - Search for 10B inhomogeneities in boron alloyed steels - Non-destructive investigation of radioactive sources - Consolidants in stones for the restoration of building materials - Grain and defect analysis in feldspar - Density analysis in thin water films.
