English abstract:
A reduction of the fuel consumption and the CO2-emissions is the main development target for future gasoline engines
External residual gas recirculation combined with an increased in-cylinder flow is an appropriate measure to achieve this target
Two engines with different charge motion concepts have been investigated on the engine test bench and with the CFD-simulation
The amount and the structure of the charge motion have a significant impact on the turbulence and the mixture preparation
To evaluate the ignition limit for high residual gas concentrations characteristic parameters of the turbulent flame have been introduced
A threshold for a stable combustion could be defined in the Borghi-Peters diagram
There has been a good correlation between the results from the test bench and the CFD-simulation for the investigated concepts
