English abstract:
Among the criteria used to compare the economic performance of countries the conditions prevailing on labour markets are usually of great interest. This short survey of the recent developments of the Austrian labour market presents some of the key figures based on the most recently published data. It is quite common that Austria´s labour market is considered rather unproblematic by international labour market experts. However, the general economic tendencies shared among almost all European countries have also left their mark on the Austrian labour market and with it a major task for the economic policy to counteract undesirable tendencies. Therefore, this survey starts with a brief look at the policy framework which provides the guiding principles for the relevant labour market institutions and continues with a discussion of labour market performance.
