English abstract:
In this paper a specific sampling method for a low-cost determination of active power and RMS value
is introduced. The developed method will be applied for life-cycle monitoring of DC link electrolytic
power capacitors in PWM converters. The monitoring is based on an on-line identification of the
capacitorīs ESR using voltage/current measurement signals and calculating active power and RMS
current. Due to the averaged characteristic of these quantities high-speed sampling can be avoided.
Instead undersampling is used which opens the application of low-cost microcontrollers. To minimize
sampling errors, the sampling clock advantageously is of random type, e.g., provided by an oscillator
with phase noise.
