The thesis reports about detailed investigations on preparation and characterisation of newly prepared benzimidazole derivatives and Pd(II) and Pt(II) complexes of this ligand. Several species with different Anions like Cl-, Br-, l-, SCN- and NO3- have been prepared as potential anticancer compounds. Structure and properties have been characterised by IR, NMR, MS UV-VIS spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction of the ligands and TGA and DTA analysis. Quantum-chemical calculation yielding HOMO and LUMO energies as well as molecular geometries and vibrational frequencies have been performed. Importantly, the ligands and their metal complexes have been screened for their antibacterial activity and cytotoxicity.
