Main effects of the carrier motion in quantum systems are coming
from ballistic transport, localization, and diffusion. Quantum
diffusion arises, for instance, in dissipative open quantum systems.
In this talk, we review quantum fluid models including diffusive
or viscous effects originating from a BGK collision operator
in the Wigner equation. The model equations consist of higher-order
nonlinear evolution equations. Global existence results for weak
solutions and numerical simulations in one spatial dimension are
presented. The analysis is based on entropy estimates, obtained from
systematic integration by parts, and a formulation in terms of
the osmotic velocity, leading to new a priori estimates.
