In 1997 Paul Rajakovics was invited by ACMA Milano to lead an architecture workshop in Gorizia on the issue of the border. Together with his students he collected drawings of the residents of Gorizia and Nova Gorica as response to three questions on the future of the two cities.

The visions turned out to be quite traumatic so that he decided to continue to work on the project, but with young people. One year later he returned with his partners (Bernd Vlay and Margarethe Müller) to Gorizia and continued the project spremembazione1. In a casting party four young Italians and four young Slovenians were invited to show their favorite places. As final event spremembazione managed to lift the border at the piazzale della transalpina in front of the train station. For the duration of a cross-border badminton game the video camera was placed on a pedestal replacing the fence.

On May 1, 2004, the EU-border was lifted since Slovenia joined the EU. The fence in front of the train station was removed and a circle was placed there instead. Over the time flower pots were added...

For PIXXELPOINT transparadiso edited the video material from 1998 and will make new interviews with significant persons who participated in spremembazione as well as personalities involved in today´s issues of Nova Gorica and Gorizia to discuss the (slow) changes after the removal of the EU-border, expectations and disappointments on both sides, and relate these experiences to current larger discussions of (new and old) borders within and on the fringes of Europe.

The interviews will serve as think tank for a longer perspective of Anyone´s Land.

Anyone´s Land wants to transform the now empty building at the border into a space for those who need it, who don´t have a legal or physical space to stay. By making use of Anyone´s Land being an art project this new type of a "limbo zone" should serve as a physical space for migrants-at the same time investigating physical and mental borders and the current issues of migration raised especially by the new outer borders of the "walled Europe".

Anyone´s Land makes a plea to set the spaces along the border free from short term investor´s interests- and to investigate the spaces along the former EU border in a more comprehensive way, turning these areas into an intensive zone of long term social-urban acting.

Der internationale, von ACMA 1997 veranstaltete Workshop 'progettare il confine. Gorizia / Nova Gorica: nuovi spazi del dialogo' stellte sich dem Problem einer geteilten Stadt: Wie wird sich das innerhalb der nächsten 10 Jahre erwartete Verschwinden der EU-Außengrenze, welche mitten durch die beiden Städte verläuft, auf den politischen, ökonomischen, sozialen und kulturellen Raum der bisher geteilten Stadt auswirken? Mit seinen StudentInnen sammelte er Zeichnungen der Bewohnerinnen zur Zukunft der Stadt. Die Visionen waren traumatisch, sodass Paul Rajakovics beschloss, das Projekt im nächsten Jahr fortzusetzen, mit jungen Leuten. Als Abschlußevent inszenierte er mit seinen Partnern Benrd Vlay und Margarethe Müller (transbanana) ein Borderline Badminton: Ein Teil des Grenzzauns vor dem Bahnhof Transalpina wurde dafür entfernt und die Video-Camera hier positioniert.

Die Eu-Grenze wurde am 1.Mai 2004 aufgehoben. Die Grenze vor dem Bahnhof wurde aufgehoben, und stattdessen Blumentröge installiert.

Für Pixxelpoint editierte transparadiso das Videomaterial von 1998, und wird neue Interviews mit relevanten Persönlichkeiten, die u.a. an spremembazione tielgenommen haben, aber auch Personen, die in die aktuellen Themen von Nova Gorica and Gorizia involviert sind, um die (langsamen) Veränderungen, Erwartungen und Enttäuschungen auf beiden Seiten zu diskutieren und diese Erfahrungen in einen weiter gefaßten Kontext alter und neuer (auch mentaler) Grenzen in Europa zu diskutieren. Die Interviews dienen als Think Tank für eine längerfristige Perspektive für "Jemandsland".

"Jemandsland" möchte das ehemalige Grenzgebäude in einen Raum für jene transformieren, die ihn brauchen, die keinen legalen oder physischen Raum zum Leben haben. "Jemandsland" möchte die Situation als Kunstprojekt nutzen, um ein "Leo", einen Freiraum für MigrantInnen zu schaffen, und damit auch die physischen und mentalen Grenzen und aktuellen Themen von Migration zu adressieren - vor allem vor dem Hintergrund der neuen Grenzen der "Festung Europa".
