"Refurbishment of a 200-year-old Cupola in Vienna - Modeling and Repair of a Spatial Timber Construction";
Vortrag: World Conference on Timber Engineering WCTE 2012, Auckland, New Zealand; 15.07.2012 - 19.07.2012; in: "Proceedings of the 12th World Conference on Timber Engineering", World Conference on Timber Engineering WCTE 2012, (2012), S. 101 - 109.

Kurzfassung englisch:
A technical assessment was prepared for the refurbishment of a historical large span timber construction - the principal cupola on top of the main building of the Vienna University of Technology. The objective of this expertise was to examine the quality of the ancient wood material, to develop safety concepts for fire and earthquake incidents and doing an up-to-date structural analysis of the 200-year-old timber structure within a modified use scenario. Findings from historical plans, the structural survey and material experiments were employed in the development of 3D simulation models. Using spatial frame analysis and finite element methods, the weak spots in the construction could be recognised and concrete measures to reinforce the construction for further safe use were defined.
