English abstract:
This article will give an introduction into automated hot box detection systems which are in use all over Europe to prevent derailments that are caused due to faulty boxes. As a showcase of a successful implementation the strategy of Austrian Railways (ÖBB) will be described. Besides the technical requirements the operational procedure for stopping trains will be covered.
