Tightening future emissions legislation and the increased cost
of primary energy are forcing engine manufacturers to introduce
new strategies to increase efficiency and reduce exhaust gas
em issions. Numerica l simulations are able to assist combustion
development. The following paper from Vienna University and
AVL describes a numerical methodology for determining the
best operating points for a large gas engine in terms of highest
efficiency while meeting specified NOx emissions Iimits.
